First Word are proud to present our latest signing, the incomparable Riot Jazz Brass Band. The Manchester-based group have been making waves for 5 years now, blowing away audiences across Europe with their infectious live shows. Based around the creative nucleus of Nick Walters (Trumpet) and Steve Pycroft (Drums) they take their influences from the likes of Hot 8 Brass Band and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, adding an unmistakably Mancunian twist. The live shows are fronted by crowd favourite MC Chunky and their unstoppable vibe has seen them play at a host of festivals including Big Chill, Bestival, Kendal Calling, Soundwave and Parklife.

The two tracks on this 7" single are a perfect introduction to the RJBB sound – opener 'Corn On The Cob' begins with a familiar horn break before launching off into an uptempo floor-stomper. A popular staple in their live shows, it's a guaranteed party starter. On the flip is the more reflective 'Paradox', which shows their considerable writing skills – crafting a track of real maturity (whilst still hitting hard!). Their debut album'Sousamaphone!'will be released on First Word this summer – look out for them at a festival near you in the coming months.
