Town
A 1 track soul single (4m 7s) — released September 1st 2017 on First Word Records
Multi-instrumentalist Bastien Keb is set to release single 'Town' through First Word Records on 1st September.
Taken from this year's warmly received '22.02.85' LP, 'Town' is a failed power ballad turned folk song; a soulful hymn to the enduring personality and faded grandeur of suburban life.
Gilles Peterson has called him "prodigiously talented - a truly original new artist" and has also been supported on BBC Radio by Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart, Tom Ravenscroft, Mary Anne Hobbs, Huey Morgan, Nemone, Gideon Coe and Jamie Cullum.
Music press has written he's "one of the most exciting musicians emanating out of London at present" (Dummy Mag), "a modern yet individual sound that's an absolute dream" (Wonderland), "3am electro-jazz flickering with warped '70s pop" (The Line Of Best Fit) and "blessed with an innate sense of funk and a shrewd songwriting sensibility" (Clash).
A guitarist first and foremost, Keb also plays trumpet, bass, drums, piano, flute and more - many borrowed donated or found instruments. Layering and pitching his voice to imaginative effect, you might feel an influence of Bon Iver or Jai Paul but in truth it's more indebted to The Impressions or The Delfonics.
Bastien Keb's debut album 'Dinking in the Shadows of Zizou' subtly nudged itself into public consciousness in 2015, drawing the attention of myriad press and radio, briskly establishing itself with an endearing mix of downbeat anti-ballads, off-centre instrumentals and warped funk. Relaxed, naturally soulful, exploratory, at times tender, others acerbic; '22.02.85' solidified Bastien Keb's reputation as an individual rising talent.
