Down The Street From Peace PROMO

A 1 track soul jazz single (5m 36s) — released April 12th 2019 on First Word Records

In anticipation of releasing 'For My Sanity', the long-player from First Word Records' latest signee, 14KT, the label is proud to present another track from the project - 'Down The Street From Peace'.

This specific track is where the idea for 'For My Sanity' was birthed and it was the first song recorded for the project, at the beginning of 2018. Heavily inspired by 70's jazz fusion and growing up on the music produced by the iconic Mizell Brothers, 14KT used the sounds of Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey and Johnny Hammond as inspiration. The result is a contemporary, bass and synth-heavy take on that unmistakable sound of some of the best records released by labels such as Blue Note or Prestige.

'Down the Street from Peace', as well as the entire project, is a reminder that finding and celebrating the sources of happiness and freedom of staying true to self, despite the turmoil the world seems to be facing, is the only way to stay sane. When writing this song, "I was thinking about when one searches for peace of mind, it sometimes isn't that far away. Often, we may be just one decision away." said KT.

The saxophone phrases that sneak up on the listener mid-song and help punctuate the journey to peace of mind 14KT is mapping out, are courtesy of fellow Playlist Retreat alumni––and significant presence throughout For My Sanity––Masego.

'For My Sanity', which will be released on May 10th, features a string of amazing musicians such as James Poyser and Stro Elliot from The Roots crew, Muhsinah, Jimetta Rose, Mark de Clive-Lowe, the aforementioned Masego, Rasheeda Ali, Farnell Newton, Kris Johnson, Majestik Legend––all of whom became part of this project organically, highlighting the family feel to it. Furthermore, the album has been mixed by long time collaborator and friend, as well as First Word family member, Eric Lau.

IAMABEENIE is the name that denotes a series of a jazz-influenced trilogy 14KT is currently developing.
