Go Get Your Money

A 1 track soul single (3m 20s) — released July 5th 2024 on First Word Records

First Word Records are very proud to welcome our newest signing, Royce Wood Junior, and his first single for us, 'Go Get Your Money'.

Royce Wood Junior is a musician, songwriter and record producer from London. As a multi-instrumentalist, he's collaborated with a litany of brilliant artists such as Nao, Disclosure, Jessie Ware, Olivia Dean, Joy Crookes, Jamie Lidell, Jordan Rakei, Jamie Woon and Sohn. He's released two solo albums to date ('The Ashen Tang' in 2015, and 'No Two Blue Ticks' in 2021), and is currently working on a new EP and a third album.

This first taste for First Word is three minutes & twenty seconds of pure perfection - a blast of infectious alternative soulful pop, composed, produced and performed entirely by Royce. Bass, guitar, drums, keys and vocals all knock triumphantly, with a sound unashamedly akin to one of the greatest to ever do it. Made in London, with a spiritual force radiating in from Minneapolis.

Royce explains "this song is about how your relationship with your craft is like a marriage that needs work, care and forgiveness, not to mention regular breaks in order to continue being partners with it. It's the thing that will disappoint you the most, but also the thing you're defined by and can't escape. More broadly it's about accepting your mistakes and failures and cracking on...

Production-wise, the hope was to marry 'Pop Life'-era Prince with 'OK Computer'-era Radiohead, and see what that would sound like..."

Previous support has included Radio 1's Future Sounds, Annie Mac, Clara Amfo, Jo Whiley (BBC Radio 2), Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova, Tom Robinson & Huw Stephens (BBC 6 Music), Zane Lowe and MistaJam. There have been sessions previously for the likes of Red Bull and press from Huck, Line of Best Fit, Clash, Aesthetica, & DIY magazine.

'Go Get Your Money' is released digitally worldwide on July 5th 2024.
