Future Ancestors
A 2 track afrobeat single (8m 27s) — released November 12th 2012 on First Word Records
Future Ancestors is the first single from Ariya Astrobeat Arkestra's second album'Towards Other Worlds'. The UK-based 7 piece have built on the success of their debut album, described by BBC Radio 2's Jamie Cullum as one of his 'sounds and albums of 2010'. Although their music uses Afrobeat rhythm and language, they also owe part of their sound to the space Jazz pioneers of the 70's and the free jazz trailblazers of the 60's. The band have been quoted to credit James Brown and Tony Allen for having a large influence on their music.
For their comeback single they have prodcued two slamming slices of uptempo afrobeat. Lead track 'Future Ancestors' is taken from the album and is a driving afro stomper - heavy horns, insistent guitars and an irresistable hook make it a surefire dancefloor winner. Exclusive to this release is a cover of the Michael Jackson classic 'Get On The Floor'. Originally put together for the Craig Charles Funk & Soul show, it completes a single that is a must for any fans of modern afrobeat, funk and soul.
